Madison Urban Ministries

The MUM/FSET Program is offered by two agencies, Madison-Area Urban Ministry and Employment and Training Association (FSET), which provide employment and training services to unemployed ex-offenders and ex-offenders who are working part-time and would like help seeking full-time employment. The result is a better opportunity at employment and skills that will last a lifetime.

Interested in participants should first go to MUM, 2202 South Park in Madison to apply. They will refer you to Dane County Human Services to apply for food stamps. Once you qualify for food stamps your Economic Resource Specialist will refer you to EATA where you will conduct Job Search and attend a Life skills workshop. Sessions and activities are provided weekly covering a variety of motivational and employment search related topics. Activities include:

MOTIVATION/LIFE SKILLS

  • Career Explorations
  • Job Hunting
  • Successful Interviewing – How to answer questions regarding past offenses
  • Role playing – Interviews, what questions to ask
  • Dress for Success
  • Positive Attitudes and Behaviors
  • Adaptability - Recognize strengths and how to work with limitations/barriers
  • Overcoming Obstacles
  • Recognition of and respect for diversity and change
  • Responsibility – Resource management
  • Time management
  • Money management
  • Discrimination – Things you should know before, during, and after an interview
  • Examinations – How to prepare for exams

EMPLOYMENT SEARCH

  • Update or creation of resume, cover letter, work history, business cards
  • Suggestion and help on application – How to answer questions
  • How and when to send out cover letters with resumes
  • On-line applications

All MUM/FSET Program participants are required to complete a total of 27 hours of activity each week (20 hours of work search and 7 hours in workshop attendance).

MUM/FSET Program works to promote self-sufficiency, self-esteem and to reintegrate participants into the job market to help in the reduction of recidivism.
